Wat is het
Als u in Nederland komt wonen, is het belangrijk dat u de Nederlandse taal leert. Het is ook belangrijk dat u leert hoe Nederlanders wonen en werken. Dit noemen we inburgeren. Als u het inburgeringsexamen hebt gehaald, dan bent u ingeburgerd.

When moving to the Netherlands it is required to learn the Dutch language. Equally important is to learn how living and working in the Netherlands works, this and more will be learned in the Civic Integration Exam or a national Dutch language proficiency exam.
Moet ik als nieuwkomer inburgeren
Of je bij langdurig verblijf in Nederland moet inburgeren, hangt onder meer af van je nationaliteit. Als je bijvoorbeeld vanuit een ander werelddeel naar Nederland komt, is de kans groot dat je moet inburgeren. Met andere woorden: je moet de taal leren spreken en de Nederlandse samenleving leren kennen. Het is de bedoeling dat je zo snel mogelijk economisch zelfstandig wordt. Daarom moet je een inburgeringsexamen of een staatsexamen Nederlands doen.
Do I need to participate in a civic integration programme as a newcomer
Whether or not you are required to participate in a civic integration programme when staying in the Netherlands for a longer period of time depends, among other things, on your nationality. If, for instance, you come to the Netherlands from another part of the world, chances are that you will have to participate in a civic integration programme. In other words, you will have to learn the language and familiarise yourself with Dutch society. The aim is for you to become economically independent as soon as possible. That is why you have to take the Civic Integration Exam or a national Dutch language proficiency exam.
